How We Do It - Tartan Carpet Rugs
Share
When we make carpet rugs from our flat weave carpet cloth it’s important to balance the design centring the pattern so that the start and finish are the same at either end. The pattern repeat differs between designs and we aim to cut the carpet with as little waste as possible.
The carpet cloth is woven to 180 cm. We make most of our large rugs using the maximum width to a standard size of 180 cm x 250 cm. Standard small rugs use the maximum width and are cut to 125cm. Standard runners are cut to 90cm using half the width and 250cm long.
If you are lucky and have a big space, we love making larger rugs and runners to customers specifications. We do this by joining up to 3 panels together to a maximum width of 5 metres by as much as 8 metres long. We match the pattern of larger carpet rugs by seaming the panels together disguising the join by stitching along the edge of a check. For a long corridor we can make a carpet runner using a single panel up to 180cm wide any length.
Once the carpet cloth is prepared we fuse it with latex to wool under felt which we have specially made using recycled material. This cures overnight and the carpet rug is ready to trim, bind and finish the next day.
There is a choice of bindings which can be specified on made to measure rugs so we can offer a truly personal service made specially for you.
