How to Care for your ANTA Wool Rug
Share
Our rugs and carpet fabrics are made from 100% British wool and woven in Scotland using traditional techniques. Wool is a naturally resilient and breathable fibre designed to cope well with everyday life. With a little regular care, your ANTA rug will soften, settle and wear beautifully over time.

Everyday Care
For day-to-day maintenance, gentle vacuuming is usually all that’s required. Wool fibres naturally resist dirt meaning dust and debris tend to sit on the surface rather than becoming embedded. A regular, light vacuum helps keep the weave fresh and even.
If a spill occurs, act quickly. ANTA carpets are finished with a stain-resistant treatment, meaning most wet spillages will sit on the surface for a short time. Gently blot the area with a clean, dry cloth to absorb the liquid. Avoid rubbing, as this can push moisture deeper into the fibres, we suggest avoiding spot cleaning where possible, as wool can sometimes develop water marks. If the rug needs cleaned after the spill, do the whole area.
Deeper Cleaning
For our flatweave rugs and carpets, a wet vacuum works well. We recommend using a small amount of solution mixed with warm water, avoiding solvent based cleaners as these may damage the adhesive between the carpet and felt backing. Work gently and evenly across the surface including the binding, allowing the rug to dry fully before putting it back into place. Professional cleaning is also an option, especially for larger rugs or stair runners.

A Traditional Nordic Approach
In Scandinavia, where wool rugs are a way of life, it has long been common practice to clean rugs in fresh snow. The rug on fresh dry snow and gently beaten or snow brushed to transfer the dirt onto the snow. The cold helps tighten the wool fibres while the snow lifts dust, and dust mites from the surface without soaking the rug. It’s a simple, effective method and a reminder of how naturally robust wool can be.
This traditional approach reflects the qualities we value in our own rugs: natural materials, practical beauty and methods that work in harmony with the environment.
With thoughtful care, your ANTA wool rug will continue to bring warmth and texture to your home, a piece designed not just to look good, but to live well over time.
