ANTA Recommends: An Edinburgh Edit
Share
Now that we’re back in Edinburgh, we thought it only fitting to share a few of our favourite spots across the city - the places we love for a quiet morning coffee, a Sunday stroll, or an evening glass of something chilled. Think of this as our little black book of local gems: the kind we’d pass on to a friend visiting for the weekend.
Whether you’re popping into our new Rose Street store or planning a longer stay, here’s how to do Edinburgh, ANTA-style.
Where to Eat
The Free Company, Balerno
A little beyond the city centre, but worth the journey. Co-founded by our very own Creative Director Stella Stewart, The Free Company hosts seasonal supper clubs on a working farm. Think fire-cooked feasts, long-table dinners, and farm-fresh ingredients.
Alternative pick? Try Little Capo, New Town
Small plates, handmade pasta, and an atmosphere that’s both buzzy and intimate. It’s the kind of place where you come for dinner and end up staying for dessert, wine, and maybe a second round of focaccia. Booking recommended (you’ll understand why).
The Neighbourgood Market, Stockbridge
A laid-back open-air spot with street food, craft drinks, and a community feel - perfect for grazing, people-watching, or grabbing lunch between shops.
Where to Drink
The Guildford Arms, New Town
An Edinburgh institution with stained glass, soaring ceilings, and serious heritage charm. The Guildford feels grand but never stuffy - all dark wood, real ales, and the kind of bar where conversation flows as easily as the drinks. Ideal for a post-gallery pint, a quiet solo moment, or settling in for the evening upstairs at the dining room.
Spry Wines, Leith Walk
Natural wine lovers, this one’s for you. Their Aperol Spritz is refreshingly no-nonsense - perfectly balanced and best paired with anchovy toast. Cosy indoors, sun-soaked out front, depending on the weather (and your optimism).
Sotto, Stockbridge
Located in the heart of Stockbridge, Sotto is a true Enoteca and Trattoria with understated elegance and the comforting hum of good conversation. Their wine list is exceptional, the spritzes refined, and the aperitivo offering beautifully done. It’s the kind of place where one drink turns into two, and you leave feeling like you’ve uncovered a little secret of the city. Try the £6 Negroni. Stay for the atmosphere.
Where to Stay
Kimpton Charlotte Square
Our Edinburgh neighbours provide an elegant, welcoming, and just the right side of eclectic. Tartan rugs and warm lighting make it feel like a home-from-home - only with room service and an excellent cocktail bar. Perfectly placed between the New Town and the Old.
Where to Shop
Let’s start with the obvious: ANTA Rose Street
Our new home in the heart of the city is filled with Scottish-made stoneware, wool throws, and beautiful interior pieces. Come in for a browse or a blether - we’re always happy to share styling tips or the story behind a weave.
Scottish Textiles Showcase, Royal Mile
Tucked inside a historic building just off the Royal Mile, this curated space champions the best of Scottish design - and we’re proud to be part of it. You’ll find a selection of ANTA pieces alongside other beautifully made textiles, all celebrating craftsmanship, heritage, and sustainable style.
While you’re in the neighbourhood, visit:
Custom Lane, Leith
Design-led and full of creative energy.
Skout, Stockbridge
A curated selection of lifestyle and vintage homeware finds.
The Edinburgh Book Shop, Bruntsfield
A beautiful bookshop with brilliant recommendations and even better staff.
Favourite Neighbourhoods
Leith
Ever-evolving, proudly independent, and home to some of Edinburgh’s best food.
Stockbridge
Leafy and village-like, with the city’s best Sunday market and charity shops that sometimes yield designer treasure.
Bruntsfield
Ideal for a slow wander with coffee in hand - think independent cafés, boutiques, and a generous helping of charm.
Nature in the City
The Meadows
Picnic-ready lawns, blossom in spring, and plenty of room to breathe.
Water of Leith Walkway
A peaceful, tree-lined path that weaves through the city like a secret.
Royal Botanic Garden
Lush, green, and especially good on grey days.
Whether you’re a local, a long-time ANTA customer, or discovering us for the first time, we hope this gives you a fresh perspective on a city we love deeply. Edinburgh has a way of staying with you - and these are just a few of the reasons why.
Pop into the shop and tell us your favourites too. We’re always collecting recommendations. Just like our stoneware, they’re made to be shared.
