Vintage of the month - MacLachlan

Vintage of the month - MacLachlan

This design was one of the first tartan style checks that I developed specifically to decorate our stoneware. It is one of the original fourteen designs that made up the collection we launched over 40 years ago.

It is not based upon a traditional tartan as some of the others in the range but was invented. Equal sized checks, two blues, turquoise and Royal blue with a narrow blue overcheck placed off centre to create an asymmetrical design over a white glaze.

Though blue and white are not used traditionally in tartan design it is a familiar combination for ceramics. Named after Lachlan, my husband and co founder of ANTA, Maclachlan stoneware sits well with Delft and early English pottery, it is at the same time contemporary in style.
